We are slowly adding some journey maps

December 2020

As planned I have started working on the 1st December. The hotel is closed but it has been under refurbishment, so there is plenty to do. Hamish was a little bored, just waiting to start working at the ski-slope towards the end of the month.

And then tragedy. On the 13th December, Hamish took Harley for a walk at lunch time. They were playing in the snow in the woods not too far from our place, when very suddenly and without any warning, Harley collapsed. Hamish carried him back to the road (Harley was a large dog, around 45 kg, so carrying him to any distance was very difficult) where I have picked them up in the car. We managed to find a vet, who sent us off to the emergency clinic in Germany. It turned out that Harley had a Hemangiosarcoma which was bleeding into the pericardium causing pressure on his heart. Although the blood was drained there was nothing further that could be done. Harley has passed away in our arms that Sunday evening. It's such a shock that he went from apparently healthy to dead in 7 hours. He was only 8 years old.

Our wedding anniversary the day after was a sad, sad day.

Harley was a big part of our little travelling trio, and we miss him immensely.

We had a lovely Christmas dinner with the Austrian contingency of our family (all participants were armed with a negative Covid-19 test from a couple of days before) and a very quiet New Year that featured going to bed before midnight….

I continue working in the hotel, and thankfully Hamish has also stared working on the ski slopes. Keeping busy helps to adjust to our new reality.
